Oh boy…did they FAIL again?
The Glue:
And here I thought I wasn’t going to post anything this week. Well, seeing as this week is E3…I couldnt’ resist getting a few quick thoughts on my two primary gaming systems. This may or may not be brief, but we’ll see where it goes.
Microsoft:
I wasn’t overall surprised with what Microsoft put out to show. That isn’t to say that I wasn’t impressed. Alan Wake, ODST’s Demo (Which looks more interesting than I first thought), the surprise of Halo Reach (Yay I just started reading that!), and several other items that looked insanely interesting, including a new motion technology allowing the player to play and interact with the system with “facial recognition” and complete tracking data for controller-less gaming. Very Cool. Overall I wasn’t surprised, because I expected MSFT to have a good showing. It’s one of the primary reasons they are my main console, and they did not dissapoint. Grade: A.
Nintendo:
Well here we come to the brass tacks, and what I’ve been wondering about for a whole year since their miserable showing at last years E3. Can they deliver and come back from the dead? I believe this comic symbolizes my sentiment. Their show seemed destined to disappoint. Yes, it had a few nice little additives with Super Mario Galaxy 2, but then there was the dread of the Wii “BIO SENSOR?” I thought they were kidding around when they pulled that crap. I was almost ready to say goodbye to Nintendo forever. And then….the end of the show, it happened, something that pulled their craptastic show out of the ditch, the New trailer for Metroid. Now just when I thought they were done with me for good..and that they couldn’t do anything more stupid…..and they go and do this….and redeem themselves (slightly). The game looks amazing, though its early, and we’ll have to wait another year for it to rear its head. However, this does not completely let Nintendo off the hook in my opinion. They gave us the smallest taste of Zelda at a Roundtable with Shigi, but that does not excuse them from all of the crappy showings of last year. Hopefully they’ll have something to show us on Zelda next year, but….have I had enough? Have they finally pushed me away? The answer…No…I believe they’ve done enought to placate my interests for one more year…I’ll continue to use my 360 in more respects than my Wii at any time, however I’ll reserve judgement, when these new games all come to fruition…then I’ll decide whether Nintendo is dead to me or not. Grade: B- for now.
For any of you interested in the Sony conference…sorry I wasn’t too interested seeing as I don’t have a PS3…not knocking it or anything, but it’s just not for me at this point. The future may change that, but I don’t see it right now. Check out IGN if you want more on all that.
Anyways, I’m beat, but I should have Tango Squad out on time next week, and we’ll see where this Magical Mystery Tour takes us. Till then….
